just a quickie

have a tub of the stuff here and need to know the mixing ratio?

anyone know?

also a email address for dan?

also, anyone know if buying stuff in the USA from abroad means that a tax is taken off or is it as it says on the box?

if we sell from europe abroad i think we can remove the VAT? not sure but i use that as an example.

Is devcon like double bubble? If you cant find for sure go for a 50/50 ?

And as far as i know anything bought from the US must have tax paid when it reaches our shores ...

"double-bubble"?

what does that mean?

i realise that we pay taxes at these shores but i really wanted to know if the yanks take off their own internal taxes.

No sales tax if you buy from the retailer and ship it overseas.

Hi Taffy,

The Devcon we used was a 50/50 mix.

You will always have the internal tax for any country, plus the dreaded import duty tax, remember my valve springs from Kibblewhites, I got charged €75.00 import duty tax.
The deal starts off good but but when it gets to your door ends up a bit on the dear side.

Sparks.

Lol sry taff maybe ive heard the slang for devcon. Double bubble/mix n fix/ARALDITE. I use araldite which is where i got 50/50 from. Magic stuff it is :)
And re: tax i dont buy from overseas as a rule due to as mentioned above, you end up paying in the end !

if you get a parcel with no external paperwork and none inside they can't tax you. i go to the post office everyday and they used to always ask me when sending abroad: "and is there any paperwork inside?" and that was all for this reason.

how much is sales tax fano?

you say 50/50 but the hardener tub i recall was half the size? for some stupid reason i sent it to a customer after i received a healthy deposit and now he's asking me how to port the engine......sometimes i walk straight into these things.....

Taff - I think Devcon is a brand name & they have lots of different products, I daresay with different mixing ratios.

The stuff I used was a really hard metal filled epoxy with the epoxy in a metal can and the hardener in a small squeeze tube. From memory you mixed it something like 100:1 epoxy to hardener by weight, but don't take this as gospel. I know it was difficult to weigh but you could pretty much estimate the correct amount by using about the same fraction from the tube as you took from the tin.

I also remember being told it was not too crucial to get the ratio right. If anything, using too much hardener actually made it weaker.

I used it to lock the final-drive chain pinions onto the wheel drive motor shaft splines on a Case skid-steer. One was so flogged out I'm surprised the spline did not strip completely. After 8 years I have not had any trouble with the pinions, but I'm dreading getting it apart when I do.

Also used it to set new outer sleeves back into flogged-out holes for the bucket hydraulic cylinder hinge pins on the same machine - filled up to 3 or 4mm in some areas. In this applications like these where it is pretty much in compression it is absolutely fan-friggin-tastic!

When you use it, make sure you very thoroughy wash both surfaces with degreaser, then wash off the degreaser with alcohol. Maybe even Loctite primer would be a good as a final cleaner.
