I got to ride my Burg for the first time last night ! Its a 02 FX 470 Demo bike. Parts of the bike are as new as described but other parts are real worn. I set the gap on the valves. and cleaned the carb. I had to pull it to get it started. but then it ran well. I could kick start it while it was hot, but when It cooled down no more kick and go. The carb slide is worn to the point that the chrome is worn away to the brass on the back side.
My question, should I try to live with the Dellorto or look for a Keihin?
Thanks

what did you do dad x 6 before you discovered bikes?

i would stick with the original carb and just get another slide. check the emulsion tube isn't worn oval by holding it up to a light. if in doubt replace. the needle will look knackered near the tip as well i suggest.

if you look at the owners doc that you can download at the foot of this post; you'll find two or three good settings you can try.

however i converted my husey to 470 jetting so i wouldn't change much.
DR272 or 274 ET and the K51 needle. leaner PJ and maybe get the drill out as joeusa did and try a back-to-back test.

be careful about which slide-they have all types. describe the one you have clearly. i even snipped a bit of the throttle spring off because i found it too strong....

FCR's go for $250 and even then you need the right needles and jets as well as inlet spigot and to modify the inlet stub (get it right first time) you then need to buy the cables and a throttle housing perhaps. then you need to create a 2-into-1 union and have all new fuel pipes for the purpose.

call that at least $100 more.

so how's that dell orto looking now? pretty good i bet :? :?

regards

Taffy

whilst reviving the old delorto might seem sensible, it's only an option if funds are particularly scarce. the advantages of an FCR over a delorto are significant (enough for the factory to change).
simply put, if you can afford the upgrade, make it.

Hi,

like benk said, if you can afford it, get a KEIHIN....it will be a completley new bike without this old stinky Dell`orto.
My FC600 is equipped with a KEIHIN for a couple of years now and I`m pleased with it every time I ride.....awesome throttle control!!!!!

....so, all props for KEIHIN!!!!
