I am trying to help a buddy who about to make the jump from KTM to Hbg.

He wants a FS650 but they are getting hard to find but he has found a 07 FS550e and has asked the question:

If I want more stove can I easiiy change the 550 to a 650 - the strokes are the same but can someone tell me if this work. What about, head, cam, ignition, pipes, etc?

Thanks

Mark

+1
Try harder.
If he _wants_ 650, he wont be happy with 550!

Well, it's done

He now owns a 07 550 and we shall see if it is enough stove...another orange guy gone blue (in this case black) :D

I am still curious though - can a 550 be retrofitted into a 650?

Cheers

now let's see?

the 650 has a an 11.3mm longer stroke. so we want a 10mm or so shorter rod. the 550 rod is just 123long and 10mm off that at 113mm is out of the question.

the answer is NO!

Thanks Taffy

Sorry to waste people's time - the first time I looked over the engine technical specs on the Hbg at the model level I misread it - the bores are constant not strokes....

Cheers

I inquired as to the posibilities of increasing 550 displacement with a JBS kit as I nearly missed out on a new 650.

I can't recall the exact displacemnts but Ben has a number of options and was considering a kit for the 550 it was around 600cc I think.

I think the plus is you would get a stiffer crank.. nicer on the mains? ..................

can't hurt to ask him.

regards
