The coating on my cilinder sleeve is damaged, waht's the cheapest solution, get it recoated (if it's even possible) or should i just get a new sleeve? Anyone know an approximate price for this?

Is it possible to loose 0,5l of oil through this kind of damge during about 150km ride? Or do i need to keep looking elsewhere for problems that could cause this kind of oil loss?

Sorry about the bad quality pic, couldn't get it better.

RE: cilinder sleeve

that will lose you all your oil! that's your problem fella!

when you strip the engine you're going to find that the piston is heavily scored and the rings damaged. there are several companies here in the UK that do the nikasil service for you. around £100 is the cost or E150. maybe the germans can do it. if not try lyncourt. i'll give you their address and stuff as you go. even if it's scored heavily they'll repair it at no extra charge.

think taffy means lancourts. used them several times, thought not on the berg. cylinders come back like new.

cheers cypher

belgique, all you need is the standard piston again because the liner will be put back to new condition

I had a cilinder coated once in Holland at a place called " powerseal" in Nuenen. This is close to the Belgian border.
www.powerseal.nl
Price for a 250cc or bigger cilinder is €180,-
You should try them, they helped me quite well.

if thats just skuff marks with no significant (deep) scratches wouldn't a quick hit with a cylender honer do the trick?

If it has damaged the plating, there is nothing to be done besides re-plate. A ball hone on a plated cylinder can restore the cross-hatch pattern, and that's about it.

If aluminum from a siezed piston is transferred to the cylinder, muratic acid can be used to disolve the aluminum without damaging the plating. That's a trick I learned from my two stroke days.

Well, I have a 100mm cylinder sleeve sitting in my parts bin. It was recoated and run for about 10-15 hours after the re-coat. I would be happy to do a deal. PM me if you're interested.

Cheers,
Simon
