There is plenty of information throughout this site relating to checking & setting crankshaft end float on 01 to 08 engines but i cant find anything on the 98 to 00 engines where a roller bearing has been retrofitted in place of a ball bearing.

It is suggested that axial play on the 01 to 08 engines should be 0.6 to 0.7 mm, would it be reasonable to run this same clearance on the 98 to 00 engines? I am building 3 x FC501 engines at the moments and have varying measurements ranging from .28 on one engine to .53 on another without shims fitted. Obviously there are no specs in the workshop manual and the original bearings were ball bearings not roller bearings.

Once again, thanks, Bushy.

To clarify, does the 0.6 to 0.7 apply to all crankshaft types across all the displacements in the 01 to 08 model range? 400, 450, 470, 501, 550, 628, 650

That's the safe Approach but in order of need for end float its 644, 550/501, 628 then the rest.

Stock 628 is ok with 0.6 assembled .... It will reduce to about 0.5 and is still ok at that.

I'd go for 0.8 on the 644 or a tuned 628. 0.6 is enough for everything else

0.4-0.5mm is enough on a little engine like that IMHO. if in trouble, check the rod float and see if a little of that can't be used to gain the crank float but you will need to check the crank for true-ness....which is never a bad thing anyway.

Understanding that different Husaberg crank designs need different rod clearance, it there a figure that most aim for? When i replaced the rod i reassembled to the same crank web outer width as what it was before the rod was replaced.

I find .0016" brings no problems. 0.4mm - especially on a run in rod and crank, all the edges have rubbed that are going to rub.

Linea weaver recommended 0.8mm for the 644
I found 0.4 too close for the 628.
So I use 0.6
