There is plenty of information throughout this site relating to checking & setting crankshaft end float on 01 to 08 engines but i cant find anything on the 98 to 00 engines where a roller bearing has been retrofitted in place of a ball bearing.
It is suggested that axial play on the 01 to 08 engines should be 0.6 to 0.7 mm, would it be reasonable to run this same clearance on the 98 to 00 engines? I am building 3 x FC501 engines at the moments and have varying measurements ranging from .28 on one engine to .53 on another without shims fitted. Obviously there are no specs in the workshop manual and the original bearings were ball bearings not roller bearings.
