My 06 450 fe started to make a rather loud noise in the engine and I shut her down right away and went home. Found the water pump impeller had 2 vanes missing as well as the clip to hold it. After removing the impeller I started the engine and it still had the loud engine rattle. Checked the oil and found small shavings in it. None in the wire mesh filter!!!! Checked timing chain and it was tight, still had a couple of teeth left on the tensioner. After removing the clutch side engine cover, I found the primary gear had a crack in it. Any idea what could cause either damage? Could the clip from the impeller trapped on one side cause enough movement/flex of the shaft to cause the primary crack ? Thanks for your input. Roland

do a search on cracked primary gears.
and check the bearings/ wobble on the w/p shaft.
