couple o issues

I have a 97 fe501e and I have discovered a couple of slightly disturbing problems. I recently changed the oil and found metal in the filter. Also there is oil leaking into the stator area.

The metal in the filter is really of the utmost concern to me, however the bike seems to shift fine and makes no odd noises. Is she dying?

Does anyone know how hard it is to get to the seal behind the stator? I guess it would be the crank seal.

Can you describe the metal ?

Shavings or chuncks?

Aluminum or chrome?

How long have you had her?

If new parts were put, then it's normal to find little chunks of metal. Which is why it is not advised to put one of those reusable filters during break-in period.

it is easy to get to the seal if you have the right flywheel puller you can buy accessory pullers about $5.00 they are made in europe then pull out the seal and replace i used a skf seal a machine shop could make a puller if you cant a shop that will order you one
