Counter balance shaft gear keeps coming loose ? I've replaced the woodruff key as the old one broke up. There seems to be no wear on the shaft or gear and I trimed the new key down when fitting it but the noise has come back again ? Any advice Guy's.

Are you tightening to specified torque and using threadlock?

make sure you clean the threads of all oil when you use the threadlock, and be sure its the high strength variety. I used an impact wrench on mine, maybe not the best way but it didnt come loose!

In what way did you trim the key down and what noise specifically are you referring to? Have you physically checked the gear or is it just the osund you are hearing?

As Dave says it shoud require a huge amount of force to loosen the nut on the gear - I have a loooong breaker bar and have also sometimes needed to whack it with a mallet.

A few of the motard guys here have had the same problem, I'm checking mine tomorrow, but they've cleaned the shaft and used a heap of Loctite and all seems to be fine, makes a hell of a rattle when it starts to loosen, one guy had his spin off in the space of the race.

The tolerance stack on the auxliary shaft assembly is such that most often one is simply binding the nut against the shafts shoulder. Either grind the shaft, modify the nut and / or shim the drive gear.
