Just replace a cam chain looked like the cam was 180deg out lined up dots on crank sprockets and the cam was dot how its pictured in manual. I set it up as pictured in manual and set the two dot level with head face.in any ideas why this might be the case?

be nice to know what year and model...put it in your signature.
but since you mention dots on crank sprockets, i can guess its at least an '01. your description of the cam "cam was dot how its pictured" is a foreign language i don't understand.
with the piston at tdc, the dot on the crank should be aligned with the cylinder (disregard the upper dot right now).mark the position of the flywheel to the case for reference, the cam lobes should be pointing to 5 and 7 oclock and the dots on your camwheel should be level with the top of the head.
make sure the two dots on the crank align with each other when you rotate thru (when aligned with each other you will not be at tdc, these dot alignments have only to do with the alignment of the counterbalancer).

Could the cam be 180 degrees out? Not likely, unless the cam was timed with the piston at BDC (bottom dead center). Since the cam rotates at 1/2 the speed of the crank, the cam can be correctly timed at 'any' TDC.

Are you referring to 180 crankshaft degrees or 180 camshaft degrees?

If it is the former the bike shouldn't go at all.

If the latter, rotating the crank 360° should rotate the cam 180° & put the marks in the right place? I think this is what is said above but...

Think it might have been timed at BDC maybe anyway set it to the manual says started it up she seemed fine. The jetting was changed to a 45 pilot was a 50 pilot seemed to run lean and run out of idle adjustment so changed back to a 50 pilot all seem fine now starts alot better too. Thanks for your thoughts guy. By the was its a Fs650 2004 akro it pipe.
