Hello Fellow husaberg lovers.
I'm currently rebuilding my 04 650 engine after a mainbearing failure after only about 50Hrs :( and i have couple of questions. I was going to go with Ben's Ballard's bearing mod but no word from him in almost two weeks. So its option B getting rid of the counter balancer from my engine to get 20mm spherical roller and the stock roller on the other side.

what are the pros and cons of getting rid of the c/balancer and is their any modification needed? i ride mostly enduro but sometimes Little supermoto.

Are the stock mainbearings C3 clearance?

what piston is best to get? stock 04? or from a newer bike? or a aftermarket one?

any thoughts one the 20mm spherical roller or this set up? any info or ideas are appreciated?

well i can only say that the specials that enginehardwear does would be easily my best bet. if he can use them happily with 75RW HP then you should be good to go.

go see enginehardwear coz he'll give you lots of advice especially if you spend money with him.

i can get you them for £80 the pair and also i machine the balancer bearings as well if you need some for £40.

you'll need 0.65 axial float by getting someone to machine out the right case. try to measure the axial float with the old set up before stripping. this will tell you what you need to do although a wrecked main may amke you numbers invalid.

as for a piston i think it's accepted that the dished 2005+ pistonfrom elko is the best. i would n't over do the engineering as it hasn't been found to be necassary.

The simplest solution is merely to junk the counter-balancer and then use the bearings themselves as spacers. Then replace the mains as you choose. The high end option mains are as per enginehardware and they are likely to last. However, putting in a standard roller bearing on one side and a ball bearing on the other will do you fine. You can use c3 but it is also OK to use c4 with more internal clearance.

As for end float, just make sure you have a reasonable amount of it. More is better than less!

All the best,
Simon
