I am a forum virgin. I have a 2004 550FE and love it. I just replaced the water pump seals within clutch cover due to escess coolant leaking out of weap hole. It has appeared to fix the problem; however, now I have coolant leaking out of my head gasket. What gives? Is this typical? Is this a coincidence. I have about 400km and bought it new in 05. Where does Husaberg buy there seals from. They need to stop. Gman

Welcome gman.
Head gasket leaks are not unheard of but dont seem to be very common. Is there any chance that the bike was severly overheated due to the pump seals leaking? These motors seem to be fairly durable when it comes to overheating, so I wouldnt think a warped head would be likely.
I guess the first step is to verify that it is indeed the head gasket and not a leaky hose or radiator. All and all changing the head gasket shouldnt take but a couple of hours considering the fact you were able to replace the pump seals.

thanks, I will try this. It got hot but not that hot. It was a short 30min. ride when i first noticed it. Is there an easy way to verify it is not a warped head?

You would have to remove it and check it with a machinist's straight edge. I would not think it would be warped.

i would start it up and run it at tickover for 20 minutes. it'll probably blow at the radiator overflow eventually but all i would do is pour water from a watering can all over the radiator and SIDE cases to cool it at that time. stop the engine.

the reason you run the engine like this is to check for leaks. when you think you've found it - STOP the engine...

obvios ones that come to mind are: you've punctured your rad and it is HISSING it at your enge, ditto a top or bottom hose. look for the overflow pipe and also the top and bottom tank of the rad do hold water in their "troughs"! so dry them before you run the engine up.

i would re-torque the head if the headgasket appears to be the culprit.

they don't warp heads or the block as ken says so a new gasket should cover it if you get that far!

regards

Taffy
