Hi guy's, new to you lot here, really glad I've found it though, have learnt no end of info about my future buy, you seem like a good helpfull bunch!

I've finally decided to come back to my supermoto roots so i'm selling my R-1, had Ktm Duke II previously...loved it, just wan't quick enough!

After much deliberation i've decided on a Hussy, the only thing is i can only justify spending around £2000-£3000 and i know ideally i need to have an 04 or 05 model for the decent starting, but i can't afford one.

So....i'm looking at an 01 fs650 which i don't think is leccy start, with all the extra's like fancy disk n caliper, exhaust, etc... or an 02 650e (from most of my reading the electric start isn't even worth having is it?!)
with only 1500miles on it's but standard.

Do you think it would be wise to buy one as old as 01 without the electric start, or would it better to go for as new as poss?

Plus is there anything else i should look out for major wise, when buying second hand hussy?!

Does anyone here in england want a 99 YZF-R1????? Plug plug plug..ha!

Cheers guys

Adam.

Adam,

Out of the 2 choices you have, go for the 02 BUT check that it has the updated counterbalancer bearing. If it is electric start it should also have the updated sprag clutch.

If you could stretch your budget slightly further you might be able to get an early 03, have a look around. In my opinion the 03s have so far been the best of the bunch.

Cheers,
Simon

You'll have to rely on the owner/dealer knowing that the work has been done.

Another little word of advice - do you have a good knowledge of all the years, updates and what to look for? If not, get someone you know to help out and to make a good judgement.

In the last year or so I have seen several 650s that have been somewhat of a pasty of years, so be careful

I'm saying this, not to frighten you as there are loads of great bikes out there at good prices, it just pays to be informed and knowledgable.

Cheers,
Simon

Adam....
Forget the 01..for your budget you can easily get an 02 and even an 03. I know of several UK ones for sale and most have known histories.
As for starting...change the battery to the later 7amp one and keep it on an optimate when not in use and they work everytime..just keep in mind they are a RE STARTER..therefor should only be leccy booted when warm...04's on start bob on, hot or cold.
Where in the UK are you?
I have an 04 with 1hr on a fully rebuilt motor and all the goodies you can eat..I may be interested in taking the R1 in px.
I'm in Lancs about 2 mins away from DCR and my bike is looked after by DCR from new(8 months old).
If you need more info email me. [email protected] :D
