Evening all!

Does anyone know if anyone is making /supplying conrods for the 644 motors of either length? That question has been raised elsewhere regarding the 550 motors as well.

Cheers.

ask the question too, conrods seems to be rare for 644

what's the repair kit ?

ok , because the conrod is supposed to be unbreakable ?

so at the rebuild I'll just have to change the bearings ?

I sell a pin and bearing kit as well as small end bushes to suit. you're basically replacing 3/4 of the running/rubbing surfaces in the con rod's big end.

I will get rod kits made soon enough but this month I went for the freewheel gears. they break and nobody else will have these made so i hope to sell them in reasonable numbers.

the rods? soon i think but it is all about turnover.

Good to know, Taffy. I'll be up for a repair kit to keep on the shelf. I'm guessing the big end bearing surface doesn't wear?

I posed the question about rods as some folks I've spoken to abroad have been trying to find 550 rods which prompted me to look for a spare for my 644, which whilst okay now, won't be for ever!

Thanks all,

Ben.

tthe 501 and 550 riod are the same but I discovered a rod from another engine and put it in my 501 and thrashed the living daylights out of it. the rod is good enough for anyone's 501. end of. period. but I am always being asked "well then it is good enough for the 550 then right?"

the answer is; 'probably' but I haven't tested it and I don't want to take the risk for the customer as some kind of insurance underwriter!

Taffy

Taffy would you like to share what rod you are using in the 501 and maybe we can get some 550 owners trying and reporting on durability

I have replaced two rods in 17 years. The rods looked ok but the big end was out of round and one small end bushing had spun, there was small knocking noise from the crank before teardown. The kit shows out of production, so as of now there are two companies that said they can reproduce, but they need a rod or engineer drawings. I have sent CP-Carrillo Rods in CA a used rod. The big end bearing and pin where picked up from Taffmeisters.

We will see how this comes out.

The other company is Arrow Precision in UK.

I have recieved my two new rods from CP-Carrillo in CA a few months ago. Crank Works in AZ assembly the crank. All has gone well with the new rod. I had purchased the big end pin and bearing and all other parts for the rebuild from Taffy. Thanks Taffy.

This is the PN# from CP-Carrillo: HG_0550_OAT_4852DOC. Lot #:97223-182-100, Center to center is 4.852"/123.240mm, the rod was for 2001 FC550.
