2010 FE450. Speedo worked fine and then I started messing with all the wiring in the headlight area, installed new front brake pads (removed and reinstalled the caliper), removed front wheel and actually got new rims, installed new front fork guards...

Now when I fire up the bike, the computer turns on and runs thru its usual cycle, but it never reads MPH and after a min or so, it turns off. The side lights still work, meaning the low fuel level light came on when I was low on fuel.

Seems to me that maybe it isnt reading a speed sensor but I have no idea where that might be or what would need to be replaced.

Thoughts?

You might of unpluged it? If not check wires to it. By the way if you want to change wheel size you have to unplug it first.

Yea, might be unplugged somewhere. I just noticed it on the way to work this morning. I didn't change wheel size, just replaced the beater rims with new ones.

could be a coincidence but
are you sure the display battery in the bottom the of the unit is not weak or nearly dead ?

Try to see if you can change the wheel size if you can then it is unplugged

if there is any ferrous material on the magnet on the brake disc it won read speed, just something else to check. Possibly picked it up when changing rims.

Do you have a new front brake disk? If so, did you forget to install a magnet?

Been there done that ;)

This would make perfect sense. It wakes when starting then goes to sleep when it can not read movement of the wheel. Magnet on disc or pick wire damaged.
