Hello all,

Trying to find info on cold compression test readings?
Also average variations between hot and cold readings.
Engine in question is 2003 400cc semi auto (kick start)
decompresor disabled. Engine still runs fine, just currious
for monitoring purposes.

Thanks in advance!

Compression?

Hey, husabergler, you might try Taffys' Help manual. The link is on the bottom of his posts. This has come up in previous threads, but my brain doesn't recall just who didit!! Ya might try a search, or check Dale Lineaweavers posts.

ryan

what is it you want?

how to check it?
what it should be?
how to improve it?

let me know. i have a lot of figures and am gradually getting there.

regards

Taffy

Taffy,

I believe he is looking for what it should be. We had discussed it over coffee earlier this week when he was getting the clutch ready to ship.

the book says 12.5:1 so the combustion chamber would hold 34cc of paraffin/kerosene if measuring with a burette.

does that help or did you mean by cranking the engine?

regards

Taffy

Hello,

Atimic Punk is correct as we spoke about this last week.
What figure or figures I am interested in, are gauge readings
in psi from a spark plug hole mounted compression guage.
The test will be performed using kick start lever to crank the
engine not an electric starter motor. also the kickstart decomp.
device has been disabled.
Any and all advice welcome .

Thanks again,

ALSO,hold throttle wide open when performing psi test.let us know the reading you get, since I have never disabled decomp to take measurement! thanks!! BOSS

I tested mine this weekend. 2003 FE400E using the kickstart and I got 115 psi on a cold engine. Bike has approx. 10 hrs only.

Hello,

Compression reading approx. 107# psi , 4 full kicks-hot engine.
Will not be able to test cold reading untill I reasemble engine. Replacing
cam chain, otherwise engine seems clean and within tollerance.
Semi auto decomp. is permanently disabled not just for test, just wanted to make a note of it.
Thanks for input, any values, variations or personal experience is of
interest to all...

Regards,
Ryan
