Hello.
I thought this would be a already discussed topic so i searched the forums,
but didn't find anything so i am posting.

1)Does anyone commute on his/hers Husaberg ? and if yes what
distances ?

I don't have many bikes to suit every aspect of riding. I now have a Suzuki
DRZ400E which i use for trail riding, everyday riding home<->work and
(not very often)commuting to nearby towns to see my friends (max 50km)

I rode yesterday to my village (10km) and my DRZ seemed a bit unstable
on high speeds.

2)How does the Husaberg feel and can i use it for what i describe or being
a racing motorcycle it cannot handle commuting ?

Let me also mention, that i will buy either the FE650E, or the FS650E.

I love enduro bikes, but this period i don't have time and i have not gone
any trail rides since February, so i am considering FS model too.
I don't like supermoto bikes, but i am only considering it because it
is not as tall and has street tires, so i guess it would handle much better
on street.
3) Is this true ?

(I am biased against the FS since i love enduros, so i hope the answers
will be that the FE handles great so i buy it with eyes closed :) )

Thank you for your time, and i am sorry for my long post.

Commuting is fine as long as you 1) want to keep making the necessary oil changes 2) you don't travel for long distances at the same RPM and 3) change tyres regularly as a 650 will shred a knobby tyre on short bitumen trips.

KTM rear wheels i believe have a cush drive whereas the huseys don't. if i were to commute i would want cush drive. i would also get a spare set of wheels and have a change of gearing and chain ready perhaps.

16 x 48 on road
14 x 48 off road.

buy the enduro it's plusher and they aren't that tall when you set them up.

The Husy is a race bike, not a commuter. A little too maintenance intensive for that purpose IMO.

...but darn is it fun on the road!

Mine seems OK on the road but I don't rely on it for everyday commuting. The 17" road bike wheels make it better.

If you do decide to use one on the road you have to be careful regarding speed limits. I got booked on the 'berg a couple of weeks ago. I guess I was actually lucky the local constabulary did not catch me with the front wheel in the air at the time!

See Clark K's answer for the, imho, correct answer. Specially the part about constant RPMs!!

If you love trail riding you should definitely get the FE for the smoother suspension.
Keep the 18" / 21" and change to more tarmac-friendly tires. There are actually a lot of tires for 18"/21" that will work great even on tarmac.
You will probably get tired of switching the tires all the time so you will eventually get another set of wheels and when you do, theres nothing keeping you from getting a set of 17" wheels with even greater street tires. You can keep the FE brakes as long as you dont go track racing with the bike.

I use my FS650 mainly as a supermoto but I would never sell my 18"/21" cause when winter comes I want to go riding on frozen lakes as a bonus. You can do the opposite and use your bike as an FE with a supermoto bonus.

Thank you all for replying.

I read what i wanted :)
I am going for the FE650E.
I know that if i buy the FS i will keep regretting it.

About the warnings.
1) I change oil very frequently even on my DRZ which is not
so maintenance hungry. The change is done in seconds (well, ok minutes),
and it is cheap insurance imho.
3) I change tires whenever needed. When i was trail riding very often i was
changing tires very frequently, so i am pretty keen on doing it. That's not
a problem either.
2) I have a little fear about the "constant RPM" thing, but when i think of it, i
guess i don't keep the rpm constant for long.

Thank you again everyone for replying.

wheels

If you buy fe 05 now you get a set off motard wheels for free from the Greek importer of Husaberg :D :D :D

If you want to buy FS 05 you take a full racing leader suit with Husaberg logo on it for free :D :D :D

It is absolutely possible to use the Husaberg for commuting! Even of the fact that it is a racebike. (precondition is: you´re not too lazy to do all the maintenance she needs!)
I phoned with a guy here in Germany, who had 20000km on the clock, and the engine was never dismantled before.
The valve cover and the rockerarms were the only things he had removed!
He even also told me that his riding manners are not a kind of cruising! But he revs only the warm engine into high RPM´s and he have done all the neccessary maintenances at the right time. So he had really not much problems.
He rides a 2000 FE501. A few weeks ago he overhauled the engine for the first time. And now she is probably ready for the next 20000 kilometers. :D
I hope so!

I would suggest you could commute short-medium distances on the FS or FE Bergs as long as you keep up with regular oil changes and valve inspections.

The Bergs do come with cush drive so that should not be an issue.

The only basic commute issues I can think of is the windblast over 60mph and the stiff/narrow seat potentially causing some booty discomfort. I've found that standing up on the pegs for 30 seconds restores the blood circulation to my rear end.

commuting

hi imitheos, i own an fs 600 for about a year now and i ride it everyday on the road (well, actually it was dead for several months and just now returning from the ashes...). i go everyday to my job with it (12+12km), i go for shopping at the supermarket with it, i take my girlfriend out, occasionaly ride to my village to visit parents (60+60 km), go to the beach with my other girlfriend , fast rides at near mountains, race against street bikes, etc etc ........

i really enjoy doing these things with my husa :)

it is very steady at "high speed" (if 160-170km/h is considered to be high any way) and it goes unstable only under full accelaration on curly tarmac but even then it remains controlable.

the only annoying thing is engine vibration which becomes nearly unbearable after about 1 hour of road riding.

my husa of course has no counter balancer and all the civilized stuff that newer models do. i rode a 2004 650 and it seemed like a XT 600 compared to mine.

so i suppose that commuting on a 650 (fe or fs) would be a piece of cake....plus the fact that NO other racing four stroke or 2 stroke enduro or sm could even consider to stand up with you, except mine of course

when you get the berg you dream, i hope you come to kavala for a frapogalo at the beach,

cheers

Good photo Brett! I kind of like the color of the pipes and all head pipes color in one way or another. If you prefer non-colored pipes maybe some Custom Chrome double wall pipes are available for the Berg.

I think the bike is jetted almost perfect, if anything just a tad rich. Only becomes an issue if I go above 1500 feet. It starts easy with the kick and runs like a champ. Over time with continued experience I will massage the jetting closer to the peak zone. Maybe someday using the DL jet kit. In the meantime it's woohoo... :D

Hi,

Kavala? That´s funny. As a kid I was several times on vacation in Kavala with my parents.
We still have some aquaintances to very kind people who live there.
Maybe, one day I will visit Kavala again..... :D
greetings
