Hi guys,

I've recently had to replace my hydraulic clutch pipe and was now in the process of filling the clutch system again with hydraulic fluid. As soon as I fill it up from the bottom, all the fluid in the master cylinder disappears and enters the engine. I had to open the oil drain plug to get it out!
Now, I have taken out the slave cylinder to check it and when I got it out it was misplaced and sitting at an angle in the bore. I placed it properly and installed it again but no luck, the fluid was still going through the engine and when I took it out again, the slave cylinder was misplaced again. I noticed that when i have the slave in my hand and I press the clutch lever on the handlebars there is blubbles coming out from the sides of the slave cylinder.
Do you think I just need to change the o-ring on the inside of the slave or change the whole slave cylinder assembly?
Could it be something more serious? And also, can the hydraulic fluid damage seals/parts in the engine even though I got it out almost immediately?

Thanks in advance

The hydraulic oil wont cause any harm but it sounds as if your slave is very sick? Can you post some pictures of the leak?

This would fix it:)

Make sure you the right fluid (see Manuels/covers to reservoirs) if not it can cause the rubber to swell using mineral oil when it should be dot 4 or vice versa. You will have problems. I Did it to an old magura brake using magura mineral oil and a shop did it to me using dot 4 I think on my FE570S the rubber to cover of the reservoir was unusable once I took it off.

Thanks guys, It must be the o-ring that's gone then!
A few months ago i was on a ride and I lost all hydraulic (mineral) fluid from the clutch and the only thing I had with me was brake fluid so I had to use that instead of the correct mineral oil. The brake fluid stayed in the system only for a day or so but it must have damaged the seal! The clutch was working properly beforehand so I don't see how my slave could be so damaged now!

Maybe you didn't get all of out ? I was told by a friend in a pinch if you don't the right fluid you can use milk he use it on his race car. but remove it before the day is done. I've never used it but why not ? I don't see rubber being ruined by milk.
