Hey guys,

I've looked over similar threads in the last months; but they seem to be a little different..

i have a 2012 fe450 that (after running for a while) has a clutch issue, the clutch works perfectly when bike is cold, but when the bike has been riden for less than 30mins; it plays up (pull clutch in; bike moves and stalls in gear..) I've found parking the bike in a puddle to cool bike down, works perfectly! clutch works instantly after cooled??!

Any help would be appreciated as I've only been riding on wet days.. in an Australian Summer, we don't have many :help:

Plus it would save me $$$ as motorbike mechanics charge a fair bit..

Thanks Guys

i use full synthetic 10w50... ive found a site that specify some possible problems, causing the clutch to play up.. what do you guys think?
- Clutch cable too close to engine, causing it to heat up and stop working..
- Engine oil overfilled..
- or somehow air is getting in when motor is hot?...
i will have to follow through on these before i take it too a mechanic..

The clutch is hydraulic on that model, i had a similar problem once and bleeding the hydraulic clutch solved it for me.

Clutch wont run hot from the clutch lever and down to the slave. Unless you need new oil in there. Its not connected oils. Check the cistern. Maybe the oil in the clutch is rly old and lean.

Seems to me you are using the right oil. How much are you filling? Should be 135 cl.
If you wanna swap oil to some other brand. Take the clutch out and clean with T-RED. Weather thats called in english.
Yes, it is differences with oil even if its all same 10w50 written on.

If it engages when cold and then does not work when hot, it would for sure be a heating issue. Water in the clutch fluid would cause this for sure as it will go down into the slave and the hydraulic fluid will stay up top. The water will heat fast and yes it is more than hot enough to boil water inside the case, this will give you no clutch feel. How does the lever feel when this happens. Just went through this on a prior thread.

I don't think it has anything to do with the motor oil as the clutch plates are locking and that's what they need to do, If they were slipping then I would look into oil issues.

I put ten to one odds on this being a slave, fluid issue. If you are going to bleed, it would be a good idea to flush system and start with fresh fluid.
