After Getting The 'Berg Back Together And Riding Around 1hr Or So I Still Have The Knocking/Ticking/Clicking Sort Of Sound.
At First I Thought This Was My Tappets As I Set The Loose As To Allow The Natural Tightening Of New Valves Bedding In And The Engine Being Out Of Oil For So Long,But,The Noise Is Still Present :(
Any Ideas What It May Be?.

Seems To Run Fine,Starts 1st/2nd Kick And Off Buttun When Cold And Doesnt Seems To Have Lost Any Power?

It Has
1)New Inlet And Exhaust Valves
2)Dales Timing Chain
3)New Style Tensioner And Tension Blade
4)Second Hand '53 Cam
5)New Roller Bearing In Rockers
6)New Cam Bearings
7)New Decomp Device And Spring
8)New Cam Wheel
9)501 Header Pipes

Any Ideas?

Hi Kez,
(A) Insure rocker arm end float is leass than .25 mm.
(B) Lightly load the de-comp mechanism while running to insure a loose
mechanism is not causing the rattle.

Good looking chain , Eh?

Best Regards,
Dale

Sure Is!
I Did Have To Fettle The Tension Blade Slightly As Its A Little Bit Long And The Mounting Hole Too Fat.
I Did Set The End Float To Approx .18mm When The Top Was In The Bench,I'll Check The Valves And Rockers When I Get The Oil Filter.

Kez,
Keep in mind the "53" cam Is a mechanically noisy brute in and of of itself. :D

Now about that cam chain:
Solid bushing, solid roller = Pretty darn cool if yo ask me. :D

Certianly Looks A Proper Piece Of Kit. I'll Wait Till I Get My Oil Filters And Recheck All The Valves.
Just Been Thinking,Hope Its Nothing To Do With That Damn Kick Start

i hope it's not your little end. this will sound like a 'little man with a toffee hammer' in the engine. it makes the most noise just off idle and gently revving the engine.

Talking of camshafts, I have a rather yummy Lineaweaver LX2 camshaft for sale that would go very nicely with the chain :D

It sure would beat the 53, even in its sleep, and it only has a few hours on it

Cheers,
Simon

   Ssshhhh,Thats My Little Secrete
If It Doesnt Go When New Oil And A Valve Adjustment I'll Panic.
Have Been Thinking Along Those Sort Of Lines Lately Conrod/Counter Balancer/Crank Bearings.
Seems Very Strange That This Noise Wasnt There Before It All Went Pete Tong On Us.It Did Get "Tappety" On The Last Ride Though.
If It Is Something Like This,    .
Then The Question Is..... Lineaweaver Kit? New/Used Larger Engine/470 Rebuild With This One?

Just Looked At The CC Bill

Oh Well,Think Its Time To Panic Now
Just Changed The Oil And Filter,The Oil Was Quite Dark For Only An Hours Use,The Filter Screen Was Completely Full Of Metal 8O 8O 8O 8O
It Starts Easier With Clean Oil.
The Knocking Is Bottom Endy,Sound Like Its Coming From The CB And The Tapping From Exhaust Rocker Side Of Things.
If I Pull The Clutch In It Will Quitens Down,When Its Out There's A Rumbling Sound,Not Very Loud,But Noticable.
I'll Just Wait Till The Old Mans Home And See What He Says :(

In For A Penny,Looks Like A Rebuild Is In Order Now,After Spending A Fair Bit Already Whats The Best Way To Get Power From This? Dales 450 Stuff Or OEM 470 Parts? Or To Hell With It And Fit A 650

a 100mm kit will fit in there for the price of peanuts. they sometimes come up on ebay. probably though-not when you want it!!!!

i could have bought a kit for £50 yet i've paid £120 for a piston, £20 for a barrel, £100 to have it bored and nikasiled, £40 for a headgasket.

all so i can say that i'm running a LS450. worth it?

no

but i'm doing it anyway!

regards

Taffy
