First time doing it. im not that mechanically minded but i need to replace. nearest dealer is 300kms away at the moment.
Any helpful hints?
 
What makes you think you have a blown head gasket? That's a pretty unusual failure.
 
the fact that water leaks out of the gasket that is half way up the motor. its on the front side of the block underneath where the exhaust pipes bolt onto the motor. As i said im not that mechanically minded but as i said at 7am sharp tomorrow ive got to replace it.
 
Good luck and let us know what you find, You may just want to retorqe the head bolts before complete disassembly to see if that cures the problem.
If you have ever had a forstroke bike motor apart you should have no problem doing the job. It is not a "bad" job.It should only take a few hours with the proper tools.
 
use a fine piece of wet n dry on a wooden block and give it the once over the block and the head. sorry ken but it's a common occurence. people choose not to mention it though.

How fine taffy. your probably in bed now but im thinking 1200 wet and dry? if it can polish cars surely it can do the job. ive tried tightning the bolts and nothing even tried that quick fix of that metal pepper stuff chemiweld or what ever. it got me home but it did start to come out of it again. thanks for all your help guys. now ive just got to go find a torque wrench.
i might video tape it so everyone can see!!
 
well P600 is perfect or perhaps some worn P400.

on a rebuilt motor i and others have 1 in around 8 or 9 leak. i put it down to the linar sinking/settling.

The trick on a rebuilt motor is to fit the head with out the gasket and have the liner not tightened up fully and lightly tension the head to square up the liner/cases then tighten the cases, then dis-assemble and refit everything for the finished job and you will not have a problem. Of all the jobs we have done I have never had a leaking head gasket come back through our doors.

Excellent piece of advice Sutto. I would never have thought to do that but yes, now you mention it makes perfect sense. Thats the sort of quality advice that you get here at UHE, yes sir. :wink:
 
Oh man sutto why cant u live 400kms further north near taree! i think my biggest problem is honda mechanics not husaberg ones.

Right, so I've read about the fine sandpaper and block of wood trick, as well as head re-torque (55 N-m). But I thought I saw Taffy once mention something about utilizing some kind of sealing compound (can't find the thread now). Maybe I was dreaming.

Anyway, before I place an order for a new gasket (yes, I already tried re-torqing the head), I thought I'd check to see if anyone had any thoughts about using some additional "insurance" during re-assembly (sealing compound).

Also, (I know this is somewhat sacrilegious) but I'm curious what you all think about BlueDevil head gasket sealer. Head Gasket Sealer | Head Gasket Sealant | BlueDevil

I've attached a picture of my "situation". I'm not experiencing any unusual smoke from the exhaust and the oil looks good in the sight glass (not milky). This is a real bummer having just rebuilt this motorcycle from a bin of parts.

i've never used a compound in the HG area but i do of course ON the head for the rocker cover!
