I have a DC system where I use a diode, capacitor and a relay
the system works great but I have a problem with capacitor going bad
I have 2200 uf 35V is there a heavy duty version or a different type
does anybody have any ideas

If you don't have a regulator the capacitor might see more than the 35V at high revs and lights etc off. Caps generally don't like being over voltaged. Using a higher voltage rated one of similar or higher microfarads as mentioned should fix the problem.

That seems like a logical solution to the problem now I've just got to find that higher voltage capacitor I looked on the web but there was an abundance of different types of capacitor ceramic etc .What would be the best type?
Thanks

The only ones you will find that large will be electrolytic. Generally th different types only have their termination connections different. Their insides don't differ much. If mounted reasonably well any electrolytic should work OK. The axial lead ones (ie one lead comes out each opposite end) woud probably be harder to mount.
