Hello! :)

Now that the winter is coming I am planning to do a little mechanical work.

I have some problems with putting my bike in neutral when it's running while standing still. I have to rock it back and forth and shift up and down the gears a for a while before it shifts. Or even killing it. I have also found it easier to shift into neutral from 2nd gear, than 1st gear.

What are some "easy" things I could try before starting to mess with the clutch itself. Tighten/loosening some wires or anything? Any help is greeted! :D

If I have to change the clutch disks, would it be an easy task? And would it be the same as in this guys video?? (Honda CRF250X)

Thanks!

Difficult shifting to neutral is normal for a husaberg. You need to get used to it, you need be careful to get it to neutral.

Yes,
pretty normal for the earlier models.
I had same issue on 2000 model and 2004 models.
Just got to get used to slipping it into neutral whilst still rolling , or as you say shut it down.
Still don't think there is anything you can do or any mods for it.

Okay, but this is an 2008 model. I talked to a husaberg workshop here in norway, and he told me it could be the clutch disks that were worn. But this bike only has only 95 hours on the timer.

A dragging clutch makes the problem worse. Make sure your hydraulic operating system is without any airbubbles and the clutch not starts to engage until you let the grip some distance from the handle.

There are a few threads about this topic already. Mine is exactly the same.
The way I work around this issue is:

a) Let's say you're approaching a red light, instead of trying to shift to neutral when you stop at it, try to shift to neutral while the wheels are still spinning.

b) Let's say you didn't have the time to do a) and as soon as you stop you can't get it to neutral. Just rev it a little bit while trying to shift to neutral, you'll get there eventually.

c) Let's say you know you're stopping the engine. Forget about shifting and just worry about it as soon as you stop. It will be much easier.

While you're doing winter maintenance,
check for burrs on the sliding plate of the shift mechanism and file then buff them smooth. I've done this to all my Bergs 97', 02', 05' and it's made a big difference in shifting.

Here's one thread and I'm sure there's more.

Even though your bike isn't "stuck in gear", and it's 10 years newer, you should still clean the burrs on the shift mechanism plate where it makes contact with the star wheel.

I think there's no need for a poor neutral.

steels can be burnt out in 5 minutes, it is rider related and not hours related so 95 hours or not THAT can be the problem!

the 2005-2008s have 1mm steels but in 2004 all models had 4 x 1.4mm steels in the middle. there is only enough room to use them as long as the frictions are the 1.8mm from pre 2005 or they are well used frictions that have each lost 0.2mm in wear!

you put the thick steels in the middle with 2 x 1mm on each end.

we sell an item we call 'the clutch pill'. this is a 1.5mm spacer and is equal to lengthening the pushrod across the engine.

regards

Taffy
