isnt it the automatic decompression linkage.

as you kick the bike it automatically activates the decompression to make starting easier

thanks for the reply , whats the best way for setting it up is it just to get it so it starts to move the lever on the decompression as i just cant find anything about it

I believe you want to have 2-3mm of play on the decomp lever on the motor at TDC on compression stroke.

Loosen the hand operated cable so that there is plenty of free play at the decomp lever on the motor.

Now, adjust the kick start actuated cable to that there is 2-3mm's of play at the decomp lever on the motor.

Re adjust hand actuated decomp cable so that there is just a little extra free play on this cable. Be sure and turn the bars lock to lock while checking the hand actuated cable to make sure that it doesn't go tight on you and actuate the engine mounted decomp lever.

What year bike do you have? I have all the manuals and can send you one if you don't have one.

Its quicker if you just go here and download the manual you need:

my opinion is to disconnect it and just use the handlebar mounted lever.
