Hi guys
I really need a big help ?
I fitted the new sprag and starter cogs today and I took the clutch basket of to do this on my fe 501 /2003 and I have put it all backed together and now the kick start lever won't go down unless I pull in the clutch,it will go down if I don't put the 6 springs and bolts back in .
Helpppp I no there is somebody out there that can point me in the right direction ,

has the kickstart fallen off the sledge?

if you removed the clutch and then the kickstart assembly you need to do it again. the key has fallen off the sldege.

if you touched nothing: you need to remove the clutch cover. put the kickstart lever directly on the shaft and turn it 180-250 degrees. then try and tap it down with a hammer. you should end up with a little gap between the kickstart gear and the clutch basket.

did you time up the two ssame-size gears so that the single dot on onje bisects the two dots on the other?

regards

Taffy

Hi Taff
The kick start works ok ,when you pull in clutch lever the kick start turns it over,or if I take out the 6 springs and bolts it turns it over, me thinks I've knocked out the timing ,as I've checked everything else 6 times part from timing .
And never done timing before is this a job for a garage or can I do this myself ,is there any info on how to do timing on forum Taff ????

There is info on timing in the owners docs. I had to do mine but found no timing marks on any of my gears like the docs show. All the info is there on how to do it.

always mark the clutch and 2 gears BEFORE you take it apart. that's what marker pens are for.

strip it and start again. you make it sound like the gearbox can't turn?

Hi Taff
What a hole engine strip and rebuild or just what I've already done
Many thanks

it'll probably be the stepped washer and the 1mm flat steel washer.

you need the plain washer against the geabox bearing but most of all the stepped washer needs to have the step facing the two needle bearings.

Taffy
