Can i use a 12v 90watt bulb in my front light?

i'm down here in the dominican republic where there are no street lights. at night its pure blackness unless the full moon is out. horses and cows and dogs roam the streets and along the highways at night, eating the grass that grows uncut along the sides of the road. anyway, my 2008 fe550e came with a 12v 35watt front light but, down here, its grossly insufficient. i just put in a 12v 90watt bulb yesterday but was wondering if this can blow any fuses or adversely effect the bike in some way??
 
That bulb will run hot enough to melt the plastic reflector if it runs long enough.

You won't get near a 90W output anyway with the bulb you put in, because the Husaberg can't push that much power to the bulb. Plus, the output to the bulb is AC, which is not ideal. If you convert your tail light to an LED bulb to free up some watts, you may be able to run a 55/60W set up that will be slightly brighter than stock.

The stock set up was never meant to be a real street bike light. To do it right, you would need to convert your electrical output to 100% DC. This is done by floating the ground on the stator and adding a larger rectifier. See Trailtech's website for more info. A new replacement headlight assembly (glass) with a properly designed reflector (available from Baja Designs) will give you a much more focused light beam, and then you can run your high output bulb without fear of melting anything.

You're wasting time trying to do anything with the stock set up. It's doing all it can do as designed.

Lighting

Since you are needing the maximum lighting for safety (what price do you want to put on the risks involved?) don't wast your time on testing various Halogen bulbs and holders. Go for the maximum lighting with one of the HID lighting sets available from Baja Designs or Trail Tech. You'll be amazed at the difference this type lighting makes over any other. :idea: (literally) J2u

Thanks guys for all the fantastic suggestions. i have to laugh about one thing though: someone asked if the H4 xenon light was legal here? everything is legal here. most motorcycle taxis "Do not have any lights at all!" they drive at night without lights becuase they have broken their lights at some point and cannot afford to fix it; some use flashlights while they drive; some use a homemade taped-up bicycle lights that they tape to the front of their bikes; a few use what i believe to be H4 xenon lights becuase they blind drivers as they pass them becuase the light is so intense. what you experience down here with motorcycles defy belief and explanation. it has to be seen to be believed. even i drove here for one year, like an *****, using a flashlight in my left hand becuase my Yamaha YZ250 didn't have any lights. (only the WR version comes with lights.) i had to turn the flashlight sideways everytime i needed to pull the clutch in to change gears.
