One week before my first supermoto race in nearly 4 years and the cam shaft bearings collapse, luckly it happened at idle so I quickly switched her off.
Striped the cam cover off and retrieved all the balls, took the left side cover off and removed some bits of bearing retainer.
Now, I have some 6201 bearings but the owners doc mentions 6201C3 do they have to be C3 clearance?
or can i use the ones I have?

The Doc mentions “2 x 6201, 1 x 6201/c3” does only one of the bearings need to be C3?

something I found that describes the C3 suffix:

C3 Bearings ~ A Brief Explanation

Applications like motorcycle wheels or bicycle wheels do not require C3 rated bearings.
The bore, diameter and width of C3 bearings are identical to the none C3 version.
C3 are exactly the same quality but have a different a purpose.
---------------------------------------------------------------
C3 bearings have additional internal radial clearances to allow expansion in high speed / temperature environments.

Typically suited to hot and high speed environments ( fans, high speed motors etc)

They can feel loose until at running temperature and speed.

They are unsuitable where critical alignment is required from the onset..

Unless the bearing you are replacing specifically says C3 on it then you should not replace it with a C3 bearing.

A rule of thumb is to replace like for like, there is no advantage to a C3 bearing in place of a standard bearing.

Badvoc

you need C3s mate. also leave the oil seals on this time. they'll run perfectly in their own grease for ever. leave the seals out and you may not be so lucky next time.

one more piece of advice: you could have a ball or three on the shelf behind the cam chain guide of the power face. prize the plastic to the left and look behind it. I had a bearing collapse last October and I only found 4 balls in the bottom. knowing the shelf well from previous experience I finally looked there and there they all were.....

Cheers Taffy, too late though Iv rebuilt her and removed the seals on the inner side of the bearing, yes I did get the C3 bearings.
Iv another post about the sem stator and jetting that you might be able to help with. thats what I was trying to fix when the bearings went south.

the seals let oil/hot grease in/out but stop debris getting in

the grease is melted, diluted and exchanged for oil within a few heat cycles
