Cam chains to short or something???

98 husaberg 400. New jug and rings replaced and did a deep clean on everything else. I stuck the new jug up next to the new jug to check if one was wider or not and there the same. All parts came from Germany. I can not seem to get the cam chain on as seen in the picture. I have to be missing something here because this chain came off the bike. Is there a way to add a link or is there someone that knows more that can let me know if I'm doing something wrong or if there's a trick to get it like putting the chain together first etcc. Please help and thank you. I wanna ride this thing. I love older bikes!!

Is the cam chain tensioner installed?
Too much sealant on the cylinder base?
Did you use a cylinder base gasket where there was none originally?
Head gasket too thick?

No the cam chain tensioner is out of the bike. I used 2 paper like gaskets that came with what I ordered. Originally there was like 3 metal type gaskets that looked glued together or something they were solid thin metal. I was thinking maybe the head gasket was to thick as well but it is what came with it, but it looks as if I need an entire link added. It don't look that thick? Thank you for helping because I don't know where to go from here. Parts are very hard to find in America.

I was just reading something about a 2000 500 not having a gasket on one of the splits. I believe you guys have just solved my issue because I have a gasket where the jug meets valve body and a gasket on the bottom split as well. If this is true and I should only have a gasket on 1 of those splits I am beyond happy right now. This is a 1998 husaberg 400. Which one of those splits does not get a gasket. Also, what kind of sealant should I use. Thank you guys so much man I am ready for the day now!!! Yes sir!!!

I am not exactly sure what you mean by "where the jug meets (valve body?) and a gasket on the bottom split". There should be no gasket where the base of the cylinder meets the crankcase, only sealant. Did it have a cylinder base gasket when you took it apart?
On my 1997 600 I use ThreeBond 1211. You can use it everywhere a sealant is needed except perhaps where the exhaust header pipe goes into the head. There you would want a high temp silicone sealant.

Yes where the cylinder meets the crank case, I apologize I referred to it as a split lol. This has to be my problem I was just confused because it came with 2 gaskets so naturally I figured to use both of them. Literally looks like I'm a whole link off it's just hard to imagine that gasket throwing it off that much. I wasn't able to get to it today but tomorrow it will be the first thing I do as long as I'm able to find some sealant locally that will work. I have some black sealant I got from advanced Autoparts I gotta research what I can use. Thank you so much for this information
 
classic mistake.

you think that the 1.5mm of the gasket isn't enough don't you. but as the head is LOWERED, the cam rotates so the teeth rotate 1.5mm on the other side as well. so 1.5mm becomes 3mm.

3mm is the difference between hitting the peak of a tooth and then sliding over it and down into the bottom where it belongs.

rookie error but we all have to learn.
