How do I check the cam chain for wear and how can I tell if it needs to be replaced?
I know it probably has some wear but when does it start to affect valve timing?

Pull the pipe, remove the spring from the cam chain tensioner, remove the tensioner and see how much stroke it has left. If you have any doubts change it out.

tell us wether you're running the knob-end tensioner or just the straight metal. count the clicks - report it here. we can help.

trust most folks have heard of the old trick with the rear drive chain. pull a link uip on the rear sprocket and if you can see daylight through the gap then it's time to go to the rubbish bin.

same with the camchain.

good luck

Hi Taffy

It has the alum end tensioner in it. 16 clicks total not 1 of them to spare.
That probably answers my question doesn't it.
