So i have a couple old berg ( 01-03) seams like every one I have ever gotten has needed new cam guide (updated one) and some times a new chain due to no length left in the tensioner. Do these old style guides wear out super quick or do all the bike I get have super high hours despite the low hours on the meter and condition of the bike?

Obviously unless you buy the bike new you don't know how it has been treated but the last bike I got FX650 still looks show room not a scratch on the rim or plastic. Still had the original front tire but when I took the cover off the cam chain tennsioner was on the last click and the bike only had 25 hrs on it

Hi
They strech very fast !! Check owners docs.
But if you make the head (tip) of the tensioner longer they will last (made mine of steel not alum.), and the brand of the chain is also important.
So you don't need to buy the new blade you can change the tensioner, I have both solutions instaled in diferent bikes, both with no problem so far.
Its just a question of how much you whant to work, but think the new blade might be a better suport to the chain.

I think with one of this solutions and a good chain you'l make at least 100 hour (I hope). I've got one IWIS and one REGINA runing to check results.

I replaced the one in my 650 new chain and blade but the 470 motor I have (just got another one) is also on its last click just seemed strange to me. I have a new chain for this motor as well, along with a lot of other updates, so i think the best thing would be to strip the motor and put in all the updates and not worry

the old blades wear thin and straight enough that the chain started about 6 clicks of 23 in. the later blade means that you have to force the CCT in just to tighten the bolts. they start on zero clicks.
