My 08 fe 550 has been making nois and progressively into a knock when I went to tighten the cam chain tensioner, i saw it was at the end of its adjustment. So a mechanic buddy of mine suggested welding a small block at the end of the tensioner to extend its reach. the knock continues. took left case cover off. looks like chain has been hitting the part of the case directly 6:00 to the cylinder. so I guess i need a new chain and buffer. Has this happened to anyone? every thing else seems tight down there. any thing else I should check?

when the rocker cover is off have a look at the cam bearings, cam follower bearings and valve springs

regarding mains

short version

long version http://husaberg.org/mechanical/5986-main-bearings-failure-must-change.html

some people have valve springs go at around 200 hrs, there is quite a choice of dual springs, I run kibblewhites.

some people have the cam follower bearings go at 2-300hrs others get 500 hours out of them, the ktm part number for the follower bearing is 590 36 061 090 $22 from munn racing. if you replace them it is also worth flipping the main rocker pins upside down.

That's probably a water jacket that it is hitting. Mine was the same, I found aluminum shavings in the oil.

My buddy is working on a crf 450 right now that is doing the exact same thing. knock at idle, but gets quieter with rpm. stretched chain was hitting case inside. and mine is hitting the cooling line part of the case that runs into the pump. gonna order from taffmeister on monday as well as some other upgrades like the dvs, decomp spring, cctb, pump seal. Shock bearing worn, so that too, seat cover and i may as well grab a mud flap as i am using a piece of plastic right now lol gaskets too. Anyone know a good place I can order oem Husaberg parts to canada. wish to get oem tank, got the 4 gallon clark. I like it for long rides, but hate it for racing hare scrambles. feels like riding a horse.

I've ordered stuff from England (taffy) and it was here faster than if I ordered out of the states. Shipping charges weren't much more either. If you have the part number, your ktm dealer should be able to order them in. Where are you located?
