Took the rocker lid off my 550 more for a nosy than anything noticed that the cam bearings didn't have the RS seals on like shown in the manual will this be any detriment to the life of the bearing or do most people remove the seals when fitting new bearings.
Never come across RS bearings being used on cam shafts before.

Earlier Bergs didnt run the seals- were open to allow oil in (02/03s etc)

Was in 04 ? when they started using he sealed grease filled version.

(The local Husaberg mechanic was less than complimentary about the change from non sealed to sealed, mainly due to the failures of the Taiwanese made uniits failing early in the 02 RFss)

KTMs have always used the sealed version on the RFSs

Cheers for that Ausberg, I thought it might be a lubrication factor as the top end is splash fed only.
There is no free play in them but i will probably replace them at the end of the year with the RS type.

RE: Re: cam bearings

the top end on the old bergs were splash fed sparks but you'll find that your engine is pressure fed to the top end.

as mine is a 2002 i have always had open bearings - can anyone elaborate on when they went to RS one side? and do they keep the seals on the outer face or inner?

regards

Taffy

On my -07 450 there is rubber seals on both sides of the cam bearings, and as far as i remember it was all the same on my -04 to.From -04 the top end is only splash fed again.
