Can I ask what people would look out for if they were buying a 2013 TE300?

It’s on 2841 kms and the front fork seals are weeping a little.

Great bike, only weakness was 4CS fork valving if you are fast. Have seen that motor regularly do 200 hours between piston changes and over 700 hours for cranks. But some people can kill any bike! So check everything, they are a little clattery in the clutch if used in tight stuff all the time, just pull clutch in to see if rattle at idle goes, pipes always get beaten up without a good guard- Hyde ones from your neck of the woods are some of the best- and starter bushes are a bit fragile if not kept clean, starter motor cover needs to be sealed properly to keep front wheel from throwing mud into it. I wanted one but had to settle for the 250 'cause everyone kept their 300s!!!

Oh, fork seals should be the SKF light blue colour and are the best, if they are weeping could just be dust under them that you can clean out, if they are black aftemarket ones change them for SKF which is original

Great stuff, I’ll check those points.

It does have a guard on the exhaust which looks a little battered. Luckily, KTMKenya in Nairobi cover Husabergs too.

PS. Not fast, just heavy!

So I bought it.

It was a little more than weeping, and the chain was loose on full extension. Exhaust to barrel joint is a bit oily but other than that is seemed reasonable for the years. Front suspension / head bearings seem good, rear suspension good. Brand new tyres and brake pads are in good nick. Clutch wasn't clattery so good there, however starter motor didn't work! I'm not too bothered about that as she started on first kick (cold engine) but then needed to warm up a bit, before taking any throttle. Once warm, pickup and open throttle was very nice. Plenty of power down the bottom of the rev range and at the top.

All good fun, I just need to get it home. The obvious way is to just ride on the road home (ie on tarmac, remember this is Kenya and there are thousands of small bikes riding around in a dangerous state, although most have number plates), although I could ride on the back roads (ie off road) all the way home.

Just slightly worried about that chain!

Ebayed a new o-ring chain and sprockets, levers, SKF fork seals, exhaust gaskets and trickle charger.

Should be here in a week or so! :)

Sounds great! You'll enjoy it- I presume you have plenty of trails around there?
When you do fork seals, pay attention to oil height on assembly- I found around 80mm instead of recommended ~100mm works better- ramps up toward bottoming better. If you ae over 80kg you will need to go bigger on springs.
Check if pipe is leaking it's not bashed and twisted- commonly if hit on the left the header flattens out- it does affect power slightly. Mine originally had the KTM powerparts carbon guard which was a bit ratty, when removed the pipe was squashed underneath!
Pull left engine/ starter cover off and grease all starter gear bushes, seal up case and starter o-ring with silicone and put some duct tape across the gap in the starter cover at the front where the mud gets thrown from front wheel.
Enjoy it!!!
