Hello all, I found a great deal on a 1995 FE 501. I'm looking for general info on this bike and also anything to look into before i buy it? Is there anything about this year or anything i should look real hard at?

The sad thing is I'm currently deployed to Iraq with the Military so I will have to have my buddy who is a Harley Mech look at it. I'm just looking for general info i can let him know before i send him over to look at it.

Thanks for your help

Josh

Hey Josh,
What's a good deal?? $500-1000??
It's a 14 year old high performance 4 stroke that was high maintenance when it was new. Parts are starting to get dodgy. If your looking for some kind of project it might be fine. If your looking for something to ride that wont require some TLC and systematic cash transfusions you may want to look elsewhere.
I'm not saying that it cant be a good bike....just go into it with your eyes wide open.
I would consider these bikes projects more than anything. If you willing to spend some time money and research, this may be the bike for you. As long as the intial purchase price is not too high and that the bike is in overall good condition.

This is just my opinion, hopefully we will hear from the peanut gallery :D

Josh,

Mate totally agree with Berger. Unless you want to be nursing an old bike it won't be worth the trouble. Your deployed in Iraq so you'd be on good danger money. Do yourself a favour and grab a newbie 550 when you get home. Keep ya head down mate.

Thanks for the heads up. The person selling it is the second owner and he has had it for 5 or so years and is still running on the tires he bought it with, It looks to be a clean bike. I'm prolly going to pass on it. I'm still trying to decide, he is asking $1400 for it with a clear title. I asked how low on the price he will go. Who knows if i can get it cheap enough i might get it.

I'm just looking for a good trial bike and something that can get me back and forth to work with out having alot of trouble or repairs. I really don't want to get a bike i'm going to have to throw money at to keep it running and reliable.

Thanks for the help
Josh

I'm defenantly keeping my head down i have to much to live for!!

Hi funrunner,

You might look in the for sale section, looks like both the lubbers are selling their bikes. The elder is selling his 450, and the younger Andrew is selling his 550 with a rekluse. One is $4K, and the other $4.5k. I don't think either of these bikes has very many hours on them and have been well maintained I'm sure.
