So I parked my 2001 FS650e just over 18 months ago employing the usual Fuel Stabilizer in the last tank of fuel routine.

Time passed with a major home move + 2 career changes thrown into the mix.

Finally had the spare time to try resurrecting the Berg, so I went out last weekend to push the button! Somewhat predictably, the battery didn't have enough stuff to spin the engine more than a dozen anemic times. So I put the battery on the charger for a few hours and tried starting it today.

I push the magic button and ..... Kachung, Kachung, Kachung BaROOM! Off and running! You could have knocked me over with a feather! 8O

Not bad for a restarter equipped bike with the original 6 year old battery huh?

I'm pretty happy. Anybody else have amazing tales of starting?

yes i have one. i'm amazed your still alive. need a zimmerframe yet? several people will be glad just to hear that you still breath!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

good to have you back!

6 years and 600 posts.....

get on it grok and spread the H word.

regards

Taffy

Zimmerframe, had to look that up.
Well yes I've been looking, gotta work on cramming the 650 motor in it.

I'm the first to admit I am incapable of matching your prodigious and useful output, but of course you must realize I am exceedingly "keyboard challenged"! Also my interests are wide-ranging and suck up a lot of spare time.

AS for spreading the H word......

There are now TWO product carrying dealers in the area I which I live, an area with a population of only 250,000! Not bad, since when I purchased mine there were no dealers. So although I visit this site every day, I still perform most of my H word spreading in person.

Now that I can see some spare time in my future, I'm looking forward to a Force ride! Perhaps I can get one going here in southwest Canada, the riding here is nutty and technical.

Cheers!

My 05 450 has about 80 hours, the original battery and I have yet to kick start it. Has always started perfectly on the button. I do keep the Optimate charger on it between rides.

Always good to hear of positive experiences!

RE: Re: Button starting after18 months???

I pulled out my bike two weeks ago after it sat for almost 18 months, and after cleaning it up and changing the fluids, I pulled the decomp, turned it over with the estart, let go of the decomp and after three revs on the happy button, it started :)

18 months, 2001 FXE 470 with a restarter... Went riding the next week, and it ran flawlessly.

P.S. I don't use a charger... that was with an 18 month old charge off of the engine :D

That's a tie I think, because I don't live in Florida. Batteries have a tougher life in the great white north. :)

The original battery in my ZX9R didn't survive last winter. Bought the bike in May 94 and replaced original battery in June 2006, over 12 years of service.

Hey now, I don't live in FL either ;)

I will concede that we don't get winters like you do in NC, but it was snowing last week, and we get under freezing quite a few times during the winter months... I was totally astounded that it held a charge for that period of time, regardless of the conditions.

thanks,
