On my buddies 2010 Husaberg FE450 we had a problem that the bike would only run in high RPM. We found a cracked TPS sensor on the outer shell

I dont have a clue how a TPS could crack since its in a very protected place. This bike had never been without its tank before, any ideas

Thanks

no idea other than to say that both the '03 which i fitted with an fcr and my '06 have ended up with broken tps shells how this happened i've no idea.

The TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) on a 2010 FE450 would be used to send info to the EFI Computer.
What is the TPS on a carburetor'd '03 and '06 bike used for?

On a side note:
It is interesting that the symptoms of a faulty TPS on the 2010 EFI bike is that it would only run in high RPM.
I would have assumed:
The main EFI table/map on the Husaberg EFI computer would have only used 2 axis to determine the correct amount of Fuel to squirt in the motor (Injector Duration). X Axis = Engine RPM and Y Axis = MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure).
The TPS would only be used for:
Accelerator enrichment (Extra squirt of Fuel when Throttle opened quickly).
Limp home mode if the MAP sensor went faulty.

So I would have thought the symptoms of a faulty TPS would have been stalling when opening the throttle too quickly. The bike should have idled OK and went OK as long as you only opened the throttle slowly.

So maybe the main EFI table/map on the 2010 EFI computer uses the TPS sensor instead of the MAP sensor for the Y Axis.
What is that old saying about assuming something? :?

Hi Davo,

The TPS on the FCR carb is to alter ignition timing, bigger shifts in timing on small throttle openings, the ignition shift decreases on larger throttle openings.
Most people disconnect them, as there were rumours that it caused engine damage in later life. My 550 ran better with out it anyway.

Sparks.

and mine were bust so the bikes were running without them and i never noticed :D

Just stripped & cleaned my carb, was dirty from standing.
Noticed the TPS leads were broken through right up against the unit.
Do I need this? Will I notice the difference in performance? I have a FE450E 2004, recently purchased so don't know if its was damaged before I brought it?
Thanks

not really IMHO. they are very usful in mud and slogging the engine which doesn't usually happen on the roads

regards

Taffy
