:( Broke my kick start shaft and bent my kicks tart, my dealer has been good but this is just another one of those things that make the yam i sold feel like the best bike i had ever had, i am just hoping that 05 brings me some trouble free Husaberg riding, when it starts and runs its the best bike i have ever ridden. Roll on the summer.
Has anyone else broke the kick start shaft?.
Anyone fancy talking me through setting me carb up for starting? in easy to understand words
My bike is a 550 with kick only its an 03 with a Delorto.
It starts from cold ok most times, but if i stall it hot i may as well pack up and push it home, when using the bike for S/M i have no probs but in woods or tight fast trails its a killer.

broke it twice on my berg. the problem was the recoil spring (auto. decompression for the cam). For your cab maybe your idle is too high.

Unfortunately such is a somewhat common occurrence.
Proper state of tune and starting procedure will reduce the tendency as will peening and / or cryogenic treatment of the shaft.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
Dale

Thank you for your replys, my new shaft is a black item made in germany and looks to be made of steel like the sockets we use at work on our[ZIP]Air guns, it also has been made a lot thicker, i cannot put pics up as i do not no how :?
could someone be kind and post up a picture of the camshaft that is in a bike like mine so i can have a look befor i take it appart to check the spring,
many thanks.

Hello Mick, never had a problem with my kickstart. maybe it'll be worthwhile and get an e-start fitted on your 550? should be easy enough to put on and is a godsend but don't really add that much weight to the anorexic berg :)

It´s not very unusual that the kickstart shaft breaks.A friend of mine broke 2 shafts,on a 650 -02.I have broked a kickstarter on a -02 501.

Very important that the decompression cable from the kickstarter is well adjusted.

Cheers guys
I will let you no how i get on at the weekend[sunday] if my kick start knuckle comes tomorrow.

At last :D me kick start has come, i have bean playing with lots of stuff on me Husaberg while waiting for it to arive, one job i have taken care of is the lack of side stand. and another is making a hot start. checked valves, changed oil, took cam out looked at auto decomp, striped carb etc etc, i just hope i can find time to get out and about on the bike over the weekend.
The kick starter they have sent me is one of the oh so nice 2005 ones, they fit well in under the tank and dont touch the exhaust, it looks a bit like the later honda cr two smoke ones as it just tucks away so nice.

cookeye,
The only advise I have for you on hot restart is.... Pull in the manual decompression device. Open the throttle and kick it through 5 times (clears out the combustion chamber). Bring it up to TDC, throttle closed and kick it through like normal. If it does not start by the second kick, start the procedure over. This works for me most of the time. This is the drill I use automatically when restarting my 550 hot. It took me a couple of years to figure it out.

Ciao tutti !

I just broke my shaft.
The bike FS 650 E has been a great bike (still is) and I use it as touristic and at the track. The bike has almost always started fine (I use only kick start, twice I used successfully Estart, battery is dead right now...)
Dellorto..... the idle is a bit difficult to adjust, due to its design,... but I did increased it a bit for the track use. Sometimes when on the spot, it used to shut down in a fast brakings, could be also a hot clutch giving some trouble.. ?
Anyway, I am letting the Dealer do the fixing (under warranty even it is 2002 model) . Only thing is that I hope they listened and will order >2003 parts. And do not let too much time pass.... I would have like to try do by myself but .... it is already there.... next time.
If anyone has some photos of the changing procedure, let me know, curiosity You know....

regards
Fin Moto
