Ok guys, just bought a new 05 FE650 today. Started looking at how they crammed the battery into place and can't easily see the best way to remove the damn thing. Since it's a MF (that's Maint Free!), it will not take kindly to any low discharge conditions. I usually need to replace these small Yuasa MF batts at lease once a year (or sooner). Since the maintenance book says NOTHING about how to remove the battery, anyone with past experience? Do you just remove the starter first? I imagine the 04 batt was in a similar position, right?

02 400

I was able to pull and replace the battery on my sons 400. I pulled it (the entire battery box) out between the shock and frame on the kick start side. It was easier than we both thought it would be.
There was a battery ground strap which was a small challenge to remove from the inside of the frame on the battery side. And I think it was one other bolt. Not sure about the 650.
Congrads on your new scoot! I recently bought a 550 myself. :D I love it..

Hey Rustie
On my 501 you just undo the top connection of the rear shock and push it back, revealing a clear passage.
Hope it's the same for you.

Remove the starter and slide it out. The starter and bracket are fairly easy to remove.
I would recommend installing a Battery Tender or Optimate. Optimate being prefered.

I REMOVED MY O4 BATTERY THE SAME WAY ADY DOES,TOP SHOCK BOLT REMOVE LEAN SHOCK BACKWARDS AND UNDO THE BATTERY CRADLE FROM THERE,MUCH EASIER THE REMOVING STARTER MOTOR.
