Can you help!!!

my brother has bought a 2002/3 650fse with a blown head gasket when we removed the head the gasket had blown at the front we replaced the gasket torqued the head to 45nm and it ran for 20 mins or so and then blew at the rear.and when i say blew its distroyed!!!.Is that head torque corect.or maybe is there a more heavy duty gasket. If i need to have the head skimmed is there a tolerance?

Thanks warren3r Newbie

Hello Warren

Welcome to UHE which is a community where we get to know each other and visit each and every day trying to help people.

it helps therefore if this 'experience' is pleasant. so it would be great if you could be both grateful and pleasant, say hello, and generally say how ya doin!

regards

Taffy

Hey Warren don't mind the old goat hes equally enthralled if you tell him to get stuffed

check the head and the block are flat and make sure the liner isn't proud more than 0.1mm or so

60 N.m on the bolts

hey guys

sorry for not saying hello mental note stored. Thanks for the info i have taken the head to be checked and skimmed if needed 60nm is a great help.also i read that there is a bleed screw on the block.maybe this will help

Thanks warren3r

If you're referring to the coolant bleed screw, you won't find it on your 2002... it was added on later models, I think starting in 2003.

the 2002 has a bleed screw between the two exhaust ports. it's a worm screw so you have to look hard!

Taffy
