hi guys
I have still not manage to get the berg going it's doing me head in now ?
Can somebody help me out ?
The bike sparks for about 5 or 6 kicks then nothing for another 5 kicks when it's sparking I put the plug back in and nothing not even a pop, there is def fuel getting through,I've checked wiring front to back disconnected kill switch moved earths around bike and still doing the same,I've put on my mates stator and coil which came of his working bike so I no they are all good, got hold of another fly wheel which also came of a working bike,I think I covered everything that I've done, I bought it as a none runner as last owner just said it was running before he stripped it down to powder coat the frame which he never got round to and to tidy up wiring loom cos it was a it of a mess which he never got round to,
All I've got connected now is the 3 wires from stator to ht coil and then earthed from ht coil.
Hopefully somebody might have had the same issue
Many thanks Mark

Hi Mark,

before you wear your kicking leg out measure the resistance between the different coloured wires coming off of the stator.

You should have,

RED/BLACK - 3000 +/- 10%
GREEN/BLACK - 165 +/- 10%

If these are out then your stator is likely to be shot.

Let us know how you get on,

Carl.

Just to throw things out there:

- Has spark plug been changed? I assume it has :)

- Is the CDI known-good?

- The TPS can't cause this if it's off, can it? Nah ...

Hi there
The stator is my mates and ht coil its of his working berg I put it on mine and I get random sparks the bikes are the same model and year ?

Tried 3 plugs 2 new plug caps new ht lead ?
Think I've renewed everything else,
Maybe time to give in and take it somewhere ?

As Tourist said above ^ change the spark plug, faulty plugs are known to spark fine outside the bike but not once installed due to the denser environment.

Also if you have filled the bike with premium fuel, drain it out and and get some regular unleaded in there, this was the problem I had with one of my bikes after a rebuild.

Good luck.

It's a shame how tricky this is. I can only imagine how annoying it is.

- I'm sure there's a CDI on these bikes? They all do, the ignition control box thingy? :) Have you tried swapping that part over?

Hi all
I've check the tappers, checked timing, put 3 new plugs in ,and also the cdi is built in with ht coil so can't check that but the thing is the stator and ht coil is of my mates and works but doesn't on mine total head mess but cheers for the advice guys ?

I'm sorry to have only had obvious things to say :) I hope spirits have been kept up at least.

Here's obvious one - Could it be a cracked solder joint or bad crimp that is intermittently bad somehow?

Fuses?

How did you go over the wiring loom, i.e. how deep did you go? Measure from the connectors or did you recable / put new connectors on? Might be time to go in that direction between the stator and the ignition just to be sure, if you didn't already? And check that there are no unwanted shorts or connections out from that main loop?

Your mate is pretty cool for lending you parts ... It would really be above and beyond to ask to borrow a wiring loom as well, right? :)

I might even see if anyone wants to do a swap with my engine once I get it done prob going to go with a bit smaller engine that I can kick easier as mine has loads of compression and I have a bad kicking knee or if not sell it maybe but see what Dave Clark can do with it ?
But cheers guy for all your help
