The problem I have been having is that my blinkers are starting to
work only when they want to. Sometimes its the left side, then the right.
Sometimes both and other times they both work fine. All the wiring seems
fine. I did it myself last year and they had no problems till recently.
First I was thinking moisture has seeped into some connectors, then I thought
it might be a stator problem.
Haven't figured it out yet and was hoping for some feedback.
By the way, the battery is maintained and seems fine although getting a
little old now.

the contacts in the switch may be burnt and not making proper contact.

What do you mean exactly when you say that they only work when they want to? Do the lights come on they just don't blink? Or do the lights not come on at all? Just guessing here but you might try and pull the blinker relay and put a jumper across the connections for the relay and see if the lights come on when you throw the switch. It could just be a bad blinker relay.

RE: Re: Blinker problem

I'll try both of those as a solution.
When flick the switch for example the blinker will not work. I will continue to try it then, and
it usually will start to work afer some fiddling.

Hey Pollo,

the swithc rocker on my '05 has on occasion become very sticky, and reluctant to work, i put it down to the contacts, i have used carby cleaner and electric co-contact cleaner to make sure the contacts are clean, then uses some silicone spray in there to make it all move smoothly.

I also noted that you did your own wiring - is there anything unusual about the lights you used for the indicators? I re fitted my old indicators with Hella LED side clearance markers, and I think because of the different charicteristics of LED's, maybe lower resistance, the relay seems to have a very slight delay before it starts working.

Azza.

I've got rear flush mount LEDs. The system has worked fine for a time although maybe a
little slower blink. I did blow my original flasher module by hooking it up wrong back in the beginning
but I replaced it with a standard flasher that did the job fine.
The original flasher is over 40 bucks. Do I need it?
I will firstly get into that switch and check it out.

Hey Azza,

sicass racing makes a special blinker relay for the led blinkers, they have a lot less draw so that is probably why there is a delay.

I will almost guarantee that it's the flasher relay as this is exactly what happened to mine.
You don't need OEM as a lot of cars, bikes etc use these and they cost about 10 bucks from most auto parts stores.
If you are running LED's all round then they don't pull enough current and they won't work properly.
I'm running LED's on the back and the OEM blinkers up front and the flasher works OK.

I'm running LEDs all around and had to install some resistors (100 ohm, 2W) in parallel to my bulbs to load the flasher relay. I only needed two resistors. I cut the leads short from the resistor body, soldered wires to them for flexibility and insulated everything in shrink tubing. I stuffed them both inside the rear inner fender out of the way.

Works great!

Just took the bike for a spin. They want to work flawlessly today. Get that
I am going to open up the switch and get a look. I also brought another flasher module home from work to change out later if necessary.
Of course they are working today on the Demo ride, but as soon as I need em in front
of the sheriff they don't work.
I only run LEDs on the rear so the flasher works .
