Does the bead blasted mating surface of the cylinder head get smoothed/skimmed or is it O.K. (possibly beneficial) to leave it a little rough?

Interesting that the exhaust side water jackets are not as "ported" as the ones on the side.

What size motor are you building?

Hi Taffy,
I was contracted by a very patient UHE member from Greece to engineer and install custom seats, custom springs (lightweight valvetrain) and improve overall air flow.

Client supplied the Titanium valves.

I neither performed or advocate the coolant passage modification as I have found such to be of no true merit.

I personally prefer the "glass bead" finish over the entire cylinder head surface including that of the combustion chamber and ports.

Said engine is for a Takis / Husaberg 650.

Kind Regards,
Dale

Dale,
Have you had a chance to measure gains with the big valve head over the 30/35 OEM counterpart?

Yes,
Three to five "peak" horsepower gain on average. Substantial improvement overall above 4k rpm - 5.5k rpm depending upon displacement and camshaft selection.

The "Big valve" head favors the X2 camshaft over that of the X1.

Dale

that burillium though ..... what a b...stard!

i've heard a lot about it.

i'd ask anyone picking up this thread to read dale's hyperlink.

sorry dale but it isn't worth it. i'd rather change MB or PB seats once per season than play with that stuff.

Taffy

Hi Taffy,
One must simply take the required precautions. Most important of all, never attempt to grind such a seat. Always use formed cutters and wear a respirator.

Best Regards,
Dale

Hello,
Dale can you explain to me why the X2 cam favors such a large valves set up??

Does the x2 or x1cam favors a larger displacement,I mean from 644 to 744cc???

Thanks
Madero

ps I have still the X2 cam,and for monobike (racing at +160km/u to about 210km/u) I hope I can use the X2 cam regarding your suggestions on big bore and large stroker.I am glad that I did not sold my X2 cam on ebay or others side.

Hmmm... I spent lots of time working on beryllium-copper propellers during my days in model boat racing. 40 year time bomb... sounds like I should start living a little???
Suggestions?

Hi Madero,
The larger valves increase total CFM without increasing valve overlap and / or duration. The milder of the two camshafts (X2) I offer coupled with the increased valve size provides a good balance of both high and low rpm efficiency.

The X1 duration and lift being well beyond that of the X2 favors increased rpm (all else remaining equal)

Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Dale
