hi there all. just wondering if any of you fellas has replaced a big end bearing without replacing the conrod.
i have had the motor pulled down about 4 months ago.the big end bearing felt like it had no up and down play in it so i,m thinking there couldn,t be much wear in the conrod or pin.
now that i,m a bit more financial i,m about to pull it down again and replace whatever is necessary.

regards weed

you must replace the rod i'm afraid. they are three wearing surfaces: the first two are on the rollers on the crank and rod.

do it once - do it well.

hi i have just taken my spare 550 engine down due to a noisy counterweight bearing while checking all the bearings etc i have also checked the conrod the bigend bearing seems fine no play at all but the little end is u/s according to the parts manual you can buy just a new little end bush on other bikes i have had and i have over 70 bikes in 25 years a lot of motocross bikes included in these it is perfectly acceptable to change just the little end bush are you saying this is not advisable on the berg ...i know what your saying that if one bearing is worn then the other must also be but at least on mine this dosen't seem to be the case ..i'm just wondering why the l/end bearing is listed as a seperate part if it is not acceptable to change it on it's own

hold it miragev

you were on about the big end! the big end also has a pin and i wasn't to know you have now changed subject was i??

it's fine to change the little end. you'll note from the owners doc that they can come loose from new. you've been warned so good luck.

by the way, i would expect your big end to feel great on monday and to go (rattle) on the tuesday. it's either good or it's gone...

when you replace it is your chance.
