Good morning.........

Can i replace the 5 k ohm sparkplug hat to one with lower resistance, and replace the sparkplug to a "non resistor spark plug", for better spark ?

bike: fe650-02

how can you have a lower resistance than 0.5k ohms?

is it really worth the hassle?

have you fully tunes and perfected the rest of the engine first?

?

regards

Taffy

Installed a Nology Hotwire on my bike a couple of years ago.
$50.00 waste of cash if you ask me. :(

It cost me $40 and I could tell no difference. I figure it cant hurt though. Will I be buying another one?? Not likely.

Resistor caps can fail, giving ignition problems.
Measure the resistance now and then and replace if your not at 5k any longer. The resistance is supposed to do good somehow but I don't know what kind of goodness that is. Could be to protect the cdi from damage, could be to get a better spark, could be to reduce rfi... ?
The resistor plug may perhaps be the resistance to bear enough goodness to give the blessing sought after so you may be fine with a zero Ohm cap. That is how I run it and I measured the plug to be at 3k Ohm.
Hopefully these 3k does the job and they get renewed every time the plug is changed.
Cheers

for a long time most jap bikes road and dirt have come out with resistor caps resistor plugs in certain countries depending on there radio frequency laws over here it is hard to by the 10K ohm caps that most of the makes use we have been fitting 5k caps for years also replacing resistor plugs with std plugs the resistance cap is to make the spark fatter more power that is what all the technical people tell you i personally know that some bikes will not run well with any other set up then again others run better with less resistance the most niticable i have found being the police bmw r 80 with out resistor leads and plugs but using just the 5k cap the difference was remakable and there radio still worked fine

have you tride split fire plugs -on a dyno they definatley show a benifit and are not $50 each in some two stroke engines i have found that the fine wire plugs work well but not for long idf you run a engine with a peak voltage meter hooked up and change between plugs you can see how much difference a plug can make and cap

Resistor plug caps & leads are supposed to suppress radio interference, I'm fairly sure by reducing the rate of current rise in the spark circuit. I pretty much thought it was a crock until I heard the two-way used by the volunteer coast guard. You could hear every time an unsuppressed boat went past.

Use of ignition suppression leads or plug caps only helps those around you, not you. In some places they can defect a vehicle if it affects other's radios.
