I was doing my last ride before oil change, was running in the 11th hour when it stopped. Valve clearance check was a bit overdue. The last ride lasted for about two hours and i was giving it some gas when i felt it lost some power. But i heard no noice or something like that so i continued driving, 1km later a sign from the sky hit mi (I hit a bird with my chest) so I slowed down and when I pressed the clutch the engine died. And I could not fire it afterwards.
When I got it to my garage I noticed that it was low oil level. (Missing 4-5dl) filled up, checked the spark but no sign of life. I seems to have good compression. And I also checked fir broken valve springs.
What could have happend here?

Its 2004..

I pulled out the sparkplug and held it against the engineblock while cranking it. And the spark seemed fine ??

Fuel? Water in the fuel? Does the plug have fuel on it?
I would have bet valve spring. You might want to have a closer look at them. Check your crank end play as well.

No the plug i actually dry.. quite confusing since the bike was still running after the loss off power. (Still working almost as normal untill it was idling (or soposed to idle) i will take another look at the springs. How do i check the end play?

this is the 2004 model nut the 2003 right?

at a guess I'd say plug.

I actually just ordered a new denso plug from you on ebay now taffy !
And also a new jet kit for my carb..

I found one of my old sparkplugs in the garage now, tried to start it with the kick start and also the el-start still no sign of life.. Only had one massive backfire in the exhaust after trying to start it for a while. ( The old spark plug was working fine before it was changed out)

Could the piston/liner have been seized? there is no sign of this though, it is moving freely, no bad noice, and when trying to kickstart, there is the same resistance as before.

Re: Sv: Berg 650 has stopped.

Sadly it sounds just like mine.....
Have you got any comp?
I had the same symptoms exactly, stopped reving and so on.
Died when I let go the gas
Missigt about 5dl oil.

Took a cyl.comp test, 0.5 bar...

Cracked piston.....

hmm. .i have to get a hold on a comp tester and test this. But the "feel" is the same when trying to kick start it.. How was it for you? did you feel any difference?

well I never tried to kickstart it, but uesed the electric startet and it "sounded" like normal when running with decomp and letting it go for it to start....

Compression is good, all valve springs are definitely ok. Took off the stator yesterday and there was some rust inside on the stator.. but i had spark. I dont know if i should have done it, but i took some fine sandpaper and cleaned up the surfave and now i dont have a spark anymore? :/

Hi Dandash,

I am no expert but I thought I'd tell you of my experience.

Two things I learnt when I rewired a 2003 model was that it was a pig to start when the battery was low and a spark with the plug out of the bike doesn't mean spark under compression. If the stator is on the way out the spark might be poor/non existent.
Thirdly new plugs dont always work.
Whatever plug you are going to use, test it on something that runs (like a car or lawn mower). If the plug gives a good strong spark when hooked up to a car lead you know its going to work if the coil does its job so close the gap on the plug to less than half the normal gap, reinstall the plug, hook up another large battery (I used a fully charged car battery) make sure you have fuel supply to the carby crank the throttle 6 to 8 times to pump raw fuel into the intake and then just hold the button down!!!

Note: Closing the plug gap is only a temporary measure to assist the ignition system if power is weak.

I could get my 2003/2004 650 to start with the car battery attached no worries (it really lept into life!! but on the bikes battery it would just turn over and my suspicion was that the starter motor was pulling too much current to allow the ignition system to produce a good spark.

The ultimate answer for me was to purchase a Lithium battery with 220 cranking amps and keep it on a trickle charger every second I am not riding it.

Good luck with it I hope the above is of some help at least.
