Hi Guys, been a while since I last posted, I have had a 2002 fe470 for the last 18 months or so, got it running and starting nice and sweet (with much help from the Doc and this forum) and have had a lot of fun on it around the local green lanes. Any how, few weeks back noticed a nasty (well, more than usual) noise coming from the clutch side, now I have recently replaced the clutch bearings and basket so new it wouldn't be anything trivial..lol.
So finally got up the courage to pull the motor and strip it. Now like a prat I thought I new what it was ie the ballancer and bought some replacement bearings from Taffy(thanks). now guess what I find when I split the cases... All the bearings are shot! one of the mains has lost 2 balls! ffs!! The ironic part is the only bloody bearing that is any good is....you guessed it the fekin ballancer bearing grrrrrrrrrrr. Now at last to the point of this post, I am worried about removing and fitting all the bearings in the crank cases as it would be just my luck to break the cases trying (they are in there really good) Now would you recommend I get someone like DCR to supply and fit new bearings and if so any idea of costs involved or should I just stick em in the oven and whack em till they come out? is there a method to make the process easier?
I really love my Berg but with all my mates doing the "I told you so" thing I have got to decide if it is going to be economically viable to repair or should I break it and use the money I would have spent and buy something sensible (god forbid!)
Thanks for reading all the above and your thoughts and opinions are most welcome.
Mark.
