Hi all,

I'm new here, my name is Edoardo, I'm from Italy. I've recently bought a wonderflul 2008 FS 650e. Great bike, but the battery is giving me a lot of problems. How long is your battery life?
Mine seams quite short; it's just a problem of my battery or is quite common?
Can you give me some suggestions on how to kickstart? I tried to kickstart and I had success just one time, almost braking my leg. Is there some video resources online about that (made exception for the ones on youtube)?

thanks in advance
edoardo

Do you keep your battery plugged into a good charger between rides?

Hi Edoardo,

Welcome to the site, a good battery should last at least three years, if the battery is new or it has been stood a while hook it up to a trickle charge and keep it on for 10 to 12 hours.
See how it goes from there, but there again you could be unlucky and it is knackered.

The techneque I use on the kick start is roll back the kick start until you feel it go past the auto decomp pull in the manual decomp tap the kick start just so it moves slightly make sure the kick start returns to it's set position then kick all the way through do not touch the throttle.
If your temp is warm 20C plus you might find that you don't require the choke I don't.
But we all know how different all engines can be. Good luck.

Regards

Sparks.

The CTEK is also a good charger:

The Multi 7000 has a recondition mode that has brought back a few batteries that the Optimate could not. I have a couple of both chargers. I keep all the bike batteries plugged into the Optimates and ocassionally use the CTEK and recondition them.

it seems a very common problem looking through the threds.
i had and still have the same problem with my 06 650 brought a new varta battery fully charged it but after every ride its half drained again i keep it on trickle charge when not in use but i also have had to master the art of kick starting the berg.
i have probably got a charging problem in the loom somewhere but i think its going to be to expensive to locate and fix so i will just have to keep kicking.
ain't so bad.

That's strange while riding the battery isn't feeding anything so don't know why it should be loosing it's charge.
Check the soldered connections on the stator this stator was well known for the solder melting and you end up with dry joints and no charge.
I once bought a Varta battery for my Duke load of crap. Get the lastest gel type battery.

RE: Re: battery life

I think the bike size matters.........my o6 Fe450e battery lasted forever.....well 2500 miles and still going strong when I traded it in. The 450 is so easy to start.

My 06 Fe550e starts a little tougher then the 450 did and as a result I believe that battery died after 9 months of ownership/use. Both bikes I kick start cold and my battery use/ charging cycles was the same for both, but still the 550 takes a bit more juice to turn over and a couple kicks while the 450 was a lighter quick starter both by kicking or E starting.
