Is this the right battery for my bike?

AGM CTZ7s 7ah or should i go for 5ah?

Thanks for answers

The 08 and 09 KTM 530 and 450 EXCs have a 5 ah battery. They are unbelivably week.
My old 525 had a 6 ah. It was bad enough. But the 530 could not e-start cold. It had no reserve. I swaped a 6 ah from my broken berg and it was way better. I think that if the new 7ah fits the older bergs it's the way to go.

The best 'standard' battery is the Yuasa YTZ7S which is 6 Ah. An even better alternative is Joe Turner's TurnTech 5 Ah Li ion battery.

i have a 2002 650e.
with the 5 series specd battery, the motor cranks on and on and on...
with the only change being to a 7 series battery, the mottor spins over a revolution or two, then disconnects because of to much amperage being supplied to the starter so it spins fast which overloads the spragues.
when i put the 5 series battery back in, the bike cranks continously.
some disagree with some technical rational.
i am only saying what is my first hand observation.
to me its ez to understand.

tuts

A bigger battery will have a lower voltage drop for a given amperage. I would argue that the increase in voltage is what is causing the motor to spin faster. The motor is getting more watts, I guess it really doesn't matter if that is from an increase in voltage or and increase in amps.

I'm in Henderson and if you ever want to see what the amps are for the 7Ah and 5Ah batteries let me know. I have a meter that can read what the motor is pulling, takes about 10 minutes to do, 9 of those switching the battery.

a YTZ7s or a CTZ7S will both be just 6 amp batteries. it says 7 on the box but underneath its always 6....

you are after what they call the CCA. cold cranking amps. it's all in the doc about it.

the best batteries are going to be the lithiums in years to come but right now the gel cel is giving way to AGM batteries. the problem is that the gel cels are made by YUASA who are the best and the AGMs are made by the chinese and the jury is still out on them.

I put one of these in my 2007 FE650 about 16 months ago after the original started to fail:

I kept the stocker on a CTek charger with no issues but not suited to the lithiums. The EarthX cranks faster all the time and the fan keeps going longer too.

The only sort of downside is that there is some background current draw and it lost power if not used at least monthly (I have too many bikes  ) so I fitted an ignition switch in series with the main fuse instead of pulling it out each time. The Ctek masked this before.

Even so, I always cold start with the kicker. The electric starter is a re-starter as I recall. I've got no issues with the sprag, yet, @ 290 hrs
