If your bike was originaly an FS then that front brake will not work unless you change the mounting point for it. FE forks or end cap brake side. Gearing 14/45 for both or 15/45 street would OK. Not that big a deal to switch front sprockets this assuming 08 or older. 09 or newer then 13/42 or 14/42. Is it true no public lands for dirt bikes in Ireland?
Bike originally an FE550E - the ebay wheels and front brake is a 2008 KTM EXC450. My Berg is 2008. Haven't tried fitting anything yet, do you think I'll have problems?
No public land per se, but plenty of places to go. Bit colder than Cali as well!

If you're planning to do any kind of tight, technical, & uphill stuff, I'd recommend a minimum of a 48 on the back. Then swap a 13 & 14 up front, pending use.
Otherwise, you'll be burning up your clutch in no time trying to get started on those 1st gear hill starts.

I'm not planning on doing anything too crazy - but would like the option. However a lot of my riding is on-road unfortunately, more than 60%. So as much as I'd love a super-capable off-road machine, I have to be realistic at the same time

I ve ridden the Fe650 for 9 years with the 14/45 or 15/48. The 550 I have has the 15/48 also.
I like them tall, and dont flame out on tight single track. But I may be on the clutch a little more in the tight. But still love the taller gear. Tried 14/47 once on the 650 and hated it. Too short for me.
Most people go shorter as with my friends I ride with. And wonder later how I manage to get away with the taller gearing. I even had a friend try my gearing from his usual 14/48. Not sure he liked it as well as I do.
Most likely you will want to go a little shorter than 14/45.
But that would be my gearing. Its what I run on the Ktm 500 also while many go 14/48.
If there was actually a more perfect gear for me in tight stuff it would be just 1 tooth at 14/46. And I have plans for trying that sometime.

I love you so much I want your babies but mate....have you any idea what they ride in in Ireland. it's called peetbog. just put it in a search fella. he needs to be doing 3mph in first, no clutch, engine at idle, him off the bike to take the weight off, walking next to it pushing it out of one "peetbog" after another after another. the hills are like one-in-three with loose loam soil and no grip whatsoever! streams, puddles, brookes, washed over rocks, no grip or little grip.
I would never go higher than 13/52 over there, I run 13/52 in East Anglia and it's as flat as a witches *** ferchrissakes!

Not my video taffy just an example of another fella on the kind of tracks around here, there are some good trails tho. There's an enduro race locally and can follow their routes. Good fun.

Pollo, we do enjoy this, we dress appropriately and enjoy it. its the peripheral stuff we don't do: we don't barbie, we don't meet famaly's riding, we don't meet unfit people (grossly unfit) we don't 'hang about'.
generally, the atmosphere is more circumspect.

Haha hard to describe it better
Looks like the front will fit without too much drama. There's a weird Acerbis branded spacer thing that came with the wheels, looks more like a mount for a disc guard than a spacer. With that installed it looks OK but without it looks like I'd need some other spacer. Pictured in the second photo.
