backfire blowin carby off

hi
I'm new here
i just brought a 98 600 FE off a mate of mine but when you open the gas and snap it closed it does a large backfire and blows the carby off the intake
this is my first dirt bike in many a year so my trouble shooting is a little rusty
for 1500 bucks the bike seems ok it just needs a little lovin, my mate is known for his servicing
any help would be good, need to get out with the kids for a blast

you appear to have an inlet valve not seating possibly? so check your tappets.

maybe you have an inlet valve burnt out?

there may be other explanations but that is the first one that comes to mind.

thanks mate i will check the valves .
it doesn't do it all the time just now and then just a pain in the arse
maybe it needs to be taken out and punished
OH well i will find out this weekend if it was a good buy i suppose

if the carb has been on and off a lot the lip in the manifold can wear out. doesn't hurt to get a new clip sometime.

be aware that the needle and atomizer wear out quite quickly on the dell orto. change these as a matter of course and you may find you've cured it.

most popping and banging is caused directly or not by a rich condition and these worn parts will make the bike run rich........ say no more.
