what exactly are "axle sliders"? Are these used in SM so that you don't grind off something while cornering when laying the bike over hard?

Husaberg make lovely axel sliders $ 110.00 for the set.......with the kit you get axel nuts with holes rather than the cap style, this allows you to pass the rod through the hollow axel.....the rod/tube is threaded at both ends so the allen screws can thread in either side to sandwich the actual sliders....the slider sits over the end of the axel and screws into this rod that tightens the whole assembly...If my camera was home I'd post picts....
Axel sliders are used in conjunction with hand guards/bark busters, the idea is that when the bike goes down the 11/4" or so that the slider protrudes away from the bike enough to keep the bodywork and pipe etc to stay off the asphalt, this is where the bark buster come in as the are the other point of contact, usually only two points touch the ground, other advantage is that you do not ground your axel nuts as well you don't damage the track......yes they work very well....I have lowsided several times at speeds over 60 mph....also foot peg sliders are very good to have as they stop the peg from grounding into the track as well.......when I drag peg I don't have to here the peg scrap and spark...when the sliders are worn then you replace them......My bar sliders actually bolt with one piece and hold my handlebars as well...this is the only way to go....I will take picts tomorrow and try to remember how to post them in my gallery......or PM me and I can send picts...lol thats the easiest for me

hope tha helps....Se attached picture of my version of axle sliders. Took the wheels off a skateboard and attached them with a threaded rod with nuts in each end.
Like Brian says they work wonders. In conjunction with the barkbusters (use busters with aluminium in them) you will spare the bike from damage when you hit the deck.
Also take a look at the tube I've attached at the end of my exhaust, that also saves the bike (but mostly the costy akro) from damage.

So if im following you correctly, the rollers are to keep the bike from getting damaged to badly in case of a quick "get off"! Keeps the bike from getting scratched, smashed, dinged and also from ripping up the tarmack? This explains it... thanks.

Home made axle sliders $20.
Go to the plastics store and get a rod of Delrin ($15). Cut down the Delrin rod into 2 inch pucks, drill out the middle of the pucks with a 3/8 inch drill bit and counter sink.
Go the the hardware store and get a three foot rod of 3/8 inch All-Thread ($5).
Drill out the center of the axle nuts with a 3/8 inch drill. Pass the all-thread rod thru the axles, test fit the Delrin pucks on the ends of the rod and cut the all-thread rod to fit. Finish it off with some washers and nuts.
Bada-bing, axle sliders.

Supertireguy's inexpensive/homemade sliders work and look as good as most sets that I've ever seen, The Husaberg set looks really nice, till you crash, at which point thay all look the same!! We made ours together, and for axle(fr/rr), pegs, and bar end, I spent less than $20. Go ahead and spend more if you like, but after my new slipper clutch, I'm really on a budget!!!

VERY trick lookin' sliders, although tracks I've been to want "non metalic" sliders to protect the pavement. I hate to say this but the KTM (GAG!) peg sliders are a direct bolt on for 'Bergs at less than $20. a set. Another source of axle sliders is Supermoto Engineering in San Carlos, Ca. (about $50. a set / both axles)
